Overview of role:
The Bid Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and commercially viable cost estimates and tender submissions for electrical compliance projects. The role supports business growth by analysing tender requirements, assessing project risks, obtaining supplier and subcontractor quotations, and producing detailed pricing proposals that align with company objectives and client expectations. The Bid Estimator will work closely with Operations, Commercial, Procurement, and Bid Teams to ensure submissions are compliant, profitable, and delivered within required timescales.
The Bid Estimator will take ownership and lead the commercial preparation of bids across electrical compliance, planned maintenance, and building contracts. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the entire bid process from initial opportunity assessment through to final submission, ensuring that all tenders are commercially robust, technically compliant, and strategically positioned to maximise the company's success rate.
This role requires someone who can challenge assumptions, make commercial decisions, engage with internal stakeholders and supply chain partners throughout the tender process. The successful candidate will act as the commercial lead during bid preparation, ensuring all pricing reflects both project risk and the company's business objectives.
Essential
Proven experience in an Estimator, Bid Estimator, or Commercial role within the electrical, compliance, construction, or building planned or reactive sectors
Strong understanding of electrical and building service compliance and industry regulations
Experience preparing cost estimates and tender submissions
Excellent numerical and analytical skills
Strong commercial awareness and understanding of profitability drivers
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Knowledge of Schedule of Rates (SOR) pricing, including NHF or similar
