Role Overview:
Responsible for the safe, timely and compliant collection, transport and disposal of waste from tenant properties. This role involves driving between properties, loading of waste, ensuring all relevant legal, safety and environmental standards are met, and representing the organisation in a professional manner. The postholder will work with a small team (if applicable), liaise with tenants, and ensure all operations comply with waste regulation and company policy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive company vehicle between assigned properties to collect waste of various types (e.g. general waste, recyclables, bulky items, possibly hazardous or specialist waste if required)
- Load waste into vehicle, or oversee / assist loading as required, ensuring safe handling and correct segregation of waste
- Transport collected waste to authorised disposal sites, transfer stations, recycling centres or other approved facilities in compliance with environmental regulations
- Perform daily vehicle inspections (pre and post trip) including vehicle safety checks, mechanical condition, cleanliness, and log/report any defects
- Ensure spillage, litter or any waste left behind is cleared up appropriately at collection sites
- Adhere to all health & safety requirements, including correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE), manual handling best practice, and safe driving regulations
- Provide good customer service: interacting with tenants in a polite and professional manner, dealing with enquiries or issues about waste collection schedules or missed collections
- Undertake all work in accordance with Health & Safety Regulations, risk assessing work and the working environments before starting any works to avoid damages or injuries
- Report non-collections to call handlers to ensure the client/customer/resident is kept fully informed
- Any other duties deemed necessary with the role
Skills & Experience
- Valid UK driving licence (essential)
- Familiar with waste collections/disposal and environmental compliance
- An understanding of the social housing industry
- Good organisational and time-management skills; ability to follow scheduled routes and adjust when needed
- A professional and friendly attitude with the ability to forge strong relationships with both clients and tenants
