Role Overview
As Head of ESG, you will lead the Group’s sustainability strategy and external communications, shaping our ESG vision, mission, and principles. You will develop and implement a sustainability framework, drive improvements, set decarbonisation and net-zero targets, and establish KPIs for measurable progress. This role includes one direct report, the Group Social Value Lead.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement ESG processes across the Group.
- Align ESG strategy with social housing and local authority requirements.
- Lead ESG reporting, communication, and verification for investors and stakeholders.
- Oversee the Annual Sustainability Report, ESG web content, and disclosures.
- Manage ESG ratings and external engagements with rating agencies.
- Support ESG-related board submissions, lender materials, and audits.
- Integrate ESG principles into HR initiatives, including diversity, inclusion, and well-being.
- Ensure supplier and procurement ESG policies align with Group standards.
- Champion sustainability and drive senior-level commitment to ESG.
- Embed ESG into business planning, investments, and operations.
- Identify additional ESG opportunities in collaboration with marketing teams.
- Strengthen industry partnerships to enhance Sureserve’s ESG influence.
- Secure and leverage funding opportunities for ESG initiatives.
Skills & Experience Required
- Deep knowledge of sustainability, corporate responsibility, and ESG, including Net Zero, ESG strategy, environmental management, sustainable procurement, and compliance.
- Strong technical expertise in ESG, environmental legislation, and management within the UK and Continental Europe.
- Proven experience in ESG policy development.
- Established senior-level relationships with key stakeholders.
- Strong influencing and strategic relationship-building skills, including at the C-suite level.
- Commercial awareness of the link between ESG performance, corporate reputation, and investability.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Climate-related financial risk assessments
- GHG mitigation strategies
- Science-Based Targets
- Net Zero strategy development
- ESG reporting and corporate sustainability strategies
- ESG/technology due diligence
